What draws on wood? Anyone who has had to bear witness to my love of stationary and art materials won’t be surprised by the fact that I’ve been asking myself this question. I’ve been rummaging through my supply cupboard to experiment. All of these pictures are on dry wood and I’ll explain some pros and cons I’ve come across.
Crayons
Pro: You probably have some. Cheap. Lots of colours. Works OK on green wood too.
Cons: Not very crisp results.
Woody 3 in 1 Crayons
Pro: Nice crisp result. Lasts well. Lots of colours. Works OK on green wood too.
Cons: Expensive. Really annoying to sharpen (even with the sharpener). They get on hands and clothes.
Oil Pastels
Pro: Good coverage. Lots of colours. Works OK on green wood too.
Cons: Smudgy.
Acrylic Pens, Deco and Posca and Acrylic Paint
Pro: Very crisp results. Lasts well.
Cons: Can stain clothes permanently. Expensive. Doesn’t work on green wood. No brown!
Sharpies
Pro: Very crisp results. Lasts fairly well.
Cons: Can stain clothes permanently. Expensive. Doesn’t work well on green wood.
